Oxygen free copper strips are copper flat products refined to remove nearly all oxygen content, typically less than 0.001%, which prevents the hydrogen embrittlement and porosity common in standard grades. RK Copper and Alloy LLP supplies these strips as an oxygen free copper manufacturer in India, stocking C10100 and C10200 grades in soft, half-hard, and hard tempers. The oxygen free copper strip range covers both OFE (99.99% purity) and OFHC variants, depending on the conductivity requirement of the application.
Table Of Content
Conductivity runs close to 101% IACS in the OFE grade. That's the main reason this material gets specified over ETP copper in the first place. Chemical composition holds copper at 99.95% minimum with oxygen restricted to 0.0005% max, and mechanical properties vary by temper; soft strips run around 25,000 PSI tensile strength, while hard temper pushes past 50,000 PSI. Strips are produced to ASTM B152 and cross-referenced against ASME SB152 where project specifications call for it. Elongation in soft temper reaches 35-45%, which matters when the strip needs forming or bending during fabrication.
Low oxygen content means fewer voids during welding and brazing. Strips resist embrittlement in reducing atmospheres, an issue that shows up regularly with ETP copper during high-temperature processing. Applications include busbars, transformer windings, switchgear components, and grounding systems where current-carrying capacity and thermal dissipation both matter. Electrical contacts and terminal connectors are another common use, particularly where repeated thermal cycling would otherwise fatigue a lower-purity strip.
Thickness ranges from 0.5 mm to 10 mm, and width runs from 3 mm to 160 mm depending on the coil or sheet form ordered. Bright annealed and mill finishes are among the finishes that are available in coil, sheet, or cut-length strip supply conditions. We produce copper strips in India and stock a large number of standard sizes so that repeat orders can be supplied quickly. Special gauges and widths are manufactured as per the specifications on request.

(1) This is a high conductivity copper which has, in tde
annealed condition a minimum conductivity of 100% IACS
except for Alloy C10100 which has a minimum conductivity
of 101% IACS. (2) Cu is determined by tde difference between tde impurity total and 100 %. For alloy C10100 tde Cu value is exclusive of Ag. (3) The following additional impurity maximum limits shall apply: Bi 1ppm (0.0001%); Cd 1ppm (0.0001%); Mn 0.5ppm (0.00005%); Ni 10ppm (0.0010%); Se 3ppm (0.0003%); S 15ppm (0.0015%); Sn 2ppm (0.0002). |

The oxygen free copper is used in busbars, transformer windings, switchgear, and grounding systems where conductivity and resistance to embrittlement during welding or brazing matter more than raw cost.
Lower oxygen reduces conductivity loss during high-temperature processing and helps maintain conductivity around 101% IACS. It also offers better ductility than standard grades after repeated bending cycles.
ETP copper contains more oxygen and can become embrittled in hydrogen-rich or reducing atmospheres. Oxygen free copper does not have this problem because oxide inclusions are largely eliminated during the refining process.
Select the required temper first (soft, half-hard, or hard) based on the forming operation. Then choose the thickness and width according to the electrical load, current carrying capacity, and available installation space.
